Relationship of Social Science with other Subjects 

 

Social studies borrows various basic principles from the social sciences to organize its subject matter and activities. 

The principles adopted from each social science are as follows :

Relationship of Social Science with Geography 

1. Geography: Social study takes the following principles from this subject :-

a. The life of the creatures living on the earth is affected by the form, shape and movement of the earth. 

b. Space and time create a framework in which events occur.

 

c. Climate is determined by sunlight, temperature, atmospheric pressure, winds, ocean currents, mountain laws, etc.

d. Land, water, air etc. are natural resources which are essential for human beings. 

e. Man tries to fulfill his needs of food, clothing and residence. In doing so he uses and exploits the earth.

f. The use of natural resources by man is related to his desires and his knowledge of technology.

 

Relationship of Social Science with History 

2. History: Social studies adopt the following basic principles from history :-

a. History does not repeat itself, but the events of the past influence the events of the present.

b. Mutual dependence plays an important role in determining human relationships everywhere.

c. Various human motivators, inspirations and ideas, whether they are true or false from the point of view of historical and human progress, affect the actions of local, national and international level.

 

Relationship of Social Science with Political Science 

3. Political Science : Social study derives the following principles from political science:

a. Many human needs can be met by the family, the church, the press, and individual businesses, yet government is an important institution serving society.

b. The final responsibilities of the government can be divided into five parts-

 

a. External security 

b. Internal security 

c. Justice 

d. The essential services for the common good 

e. Providing freedom in a democratic state.

c. In a democracy, the government is the servant of the people, not the public the servant of the government.

d. No government can function successfully unless it adapts itself to the new circumstances.

All the nations of the modern world are part of the international system of economic, social, cultural and political life.

Relationship of Social Science with Economics

4. Economics: From the social study economics embraces the following basic principles :

(i) Desires are unlimited and resources are limited, so every nation should solve the following economic problems- 

 

- What item to be produced?

- In what quantity should it be produced?

- How to produce it? 

- How to distribute it? 

(ii) Labour, natural resources, capital and knowledge (technology) are important factors of production. 

(iii) High standard of living is dependent on productivity.

Relationship of Social Science with Anthropology 

5. Anthropology: Social study derives the following principles from Anthropology :-

(i) The beliefs, traditions and ways of living of the ancient people can be closely related to the conditions of the contemporary environment. 

(ii) Group life originated from the family and became complex as a result of cultural changes.

(iii) Sanskrit contains knowledge, beliefs and values ​​developed by human groups.

(iv) Modern society is indebted to the cultures of different times and places.

(v) The culture in which a person is brought up has an impact on him throughout his life.

Relationship of Social Science with Sociology 

6. Sociology: Social studies adopt the following basic principles from sociology :-

(i) The functioning of the society is conducted by the organized groups which are organized for the attainment of common interests. 

(ii) Group action and cultural advancement require exchange between members of groups and within groups.

(iii) Family Goals, beliefs, knowledge and values ​​can be transferred and changed through institutions such as church, school, government and business.

(iv) System of social control is essential for the existence of the society. 

Relationship of Social Science with Psychology 

7. Psychology: Social study borrows the following principles from psychology :

(i) Behavior is the result of multiple, complex and interrelated causes. 

(ii) Human behavior is essentially the result of breeding and environmental factors.

(iii) Individuals differ from each other in terms of personal values, attitudes, personalities etc.

(iv) The members of the group share some common values ​​and characteristics.

(v) Every group influences the behavior of its members.

Relationship of Social Science with Philosophy 

8. Philosophy-. Social studies adopts the following principles from philosophy :

(i) Logic, scientific and moral analysis are provided by philosophy.

(ii) A free society keeps open the path of free inquiry for its own good and builds up the habits of inquiry among its citizens. Social studies form its coordinated or integrated form by adopting the above general topics or principles from various social sciences.
