Meaning of Environmental Education

 

Environmental education refers to basic education – in which children are given information about all the components present in the environment, what can be the benefits and what can be harmed if not, as well as how to conserve the components.

 

Definition of Environmental Education

 

According to the UNESCO Working Committee (1970): "Environmental education is the process of knowing responsibilities and clarifying ideas in which human beings can develop the skills and attitudes necessary to identify and understand their own connection between their culture and biophysical environment."

In simple words,

The education in which a person is awakened about the protection, balance and management of the environment, made aware of the environmental problem and able to find solutions to it, is called Environmental Education.

 

Characteristics of Environmental Education

 

As a result of environmental education, humans develop an understanding of their environmental components.

This education gives a sense of the mutual relationship between man and his cultural and biological environment.
