Classification of Personality in Psychology 

 

We can classify the personality of a person in many ways. Because the personality is very big, complicated and contains many types of qualities and demerits within itself. 

That's why personality cannot be classified on the basis of any one thing, discipline or quality.


The definition of personality in different societies, the way of looking at it keeps on changing, roughly understand that personality reflects the influence or attraction of a person.

 

On the basis of different qualities and disciplines, we have classified personality in many ways. 

Various psychologists have classified personality in their own way, some of which we are going to tell here. 

The following are the types of classification of individuals:


1. Classification of personality on the basis of social interaction

  • introverted personality
  • Extroverted personality
  • ambivalent personality 

 

2. Classification of personality on the basis of creative power

  • Creative personality 
  • Uncreative personality 


3. Classification of personality on the basis of temperament

Classification of personality on the basis of social interaction :


Psychologist Jung has divided individuals into the following three categories based on the nature of their social interaction for the classification of personality:

• Introverted personality :-
 

People of introverted personality are skilled in work like thinking, meditation and contemplation. 

Psychologist Jung has included in this category those people who are self-contemplative, self-centred and peace-loving in the classification of personality.

People of introverted personality are sensitive, dutiful and reticent. 

Individuals in this category are often self-conscious in personality classification, hesitate to express their views in society, and do not perform as well in social behavior.

For example, a writer who is very good at writing, but he is not a good speaker, then we can call him an introvert personality.

• Extroverted personality:-
 
In the classification of personality, psychologist Jung has placed those people in extroverted personality who are socially focused, practical, adventurous, anxious and optimistic. Such persons take interest in social work and gain popularity. Like a good speaker.

• Ambivalent personality :-

Individuals in whom the characteristics of both introvert and extrovert personality are almost equally present, psychologist Jung has placed them in the ambivalent category in the classification of personality.

Classification of personality on the basis of creative power :

 
Some psychologists have divided individuals into two categories on the basis of their creative power in the classification of personality.

• Creative personality :-

Such people, who have the will to walk out of the box, to think and do something new, are called creative personalities. Creative people are sensitive, progressive and capable of making independent decisions.

• Uncreative personality :-

In the classification of personality, people of uncreative personality never think new, nor do anything new. Uncreative individuals lack the capacity for independent thinking, depend on others, and are conservative.
 

Classification based on temperament :


Psychologist Galan has divided individuals into the following four categories on the basis of their nature.

Fierce temperament personality :-

In this category, Galen has kept people with fierce nature. People of this class get angry very quickly.

Anxious person:-

In this category, Galen has kept the people suffering from anxiety. People of this class are often depressed and are very submissive and pessimistic.
 
Despondent Personality:-

In this category, Galen has placed the unenthusiastic people. The people of this class are usually peaceful and lazy.

Enthusiastic person: -

In this category, Galen has placed persons full of enthusiasm. People of this class are optimistic and active.

Classification of personality on the basis of values :

 
Psychologist Sprager has also divided personality into the following six categories on the basis of values.

Theoretical Value :-

In the classification of personality, Spranger has placed in this category those persons who are always eager to acquire knowledge, give importance to principles and follow ideals. Such persons are often impractical.

Economic value :-

In the classification of personality, Spranger has placed in this category those persons who are desirous of physical pleasures and give more importance to money. Such people are often practical.
 
Social values ​​:-

In the classification of personality, Spranger has placed in this category those persons who give more importance to society and social relations. People of this class are kind, sacrificial and charitable. Such persons are very tactful.

Political value :-

Spranger has put those people in this category, who want to be associated with the state and the state. Such persons are very adept in political maneuvers.
 
Religious values ​​:-

In the classification of personality, Spranger has placed in this category those persons who believe in God and follow spiritual values. Such people are often self-satisfied and benevolent.

Aesthetic value :-

In the classification of personality, Spranger has placed in this category those people who love beauty, such people are often interested in art, music, and dance etc.

Classification of personality on the basis of anatomy :

 
Many psychologists like Sheldon and Krechmer have also classified personality on the basis of human anatomy. 

According to the psychologist Krechmer, personality has been classified into the following 3 parts.

Elongated body structure :-

In this category Krechmer has placed tall and thin persons. These individuals often prefer to remain aloof and take pleasure in criticizing others, but do not tolerate their own criticism.
 
Shapely body structure :-

In this category, Krechmer has placed healthy and athletic persons of normal height. The personality of such persons is normal and they also have more ability to reconcile.

Globular body structure:-

Kramcher has placed healthy persons of short stature in the globular body structure class. These individuals are usually easy-going and have a sense of humour.

Classification of personality on the basis of adjustment :

 
Most psychologists have classified personality on the basis of adjustment. 

These psychologists are of the opinion that every person comes into this world at birth with certain qualities and powers, which he receives from his parents or in genetic form.

But one has to work to be in harmony with this world, to enhance one's qualities, so that one can fight with the external forces. 

Each person does this work of adjustment in his own way, on the basis of which we can classify the personality into the following two parts.
 
Fine Adjustment :-

The person who is able to balance his internal and external forces is called a person with a well-adjusted personality. 

The behavior of people with a well-adjusted personality is very balanced, and the society is agreeable.

Maladaptive Adjustment :-

Individuals who are unable to balance their internal and external forces and demands are called maladjusted personality. 

The behavior of such persons is very unbalanced, and their behavior is often anti-social as well.
