Meaning of School Management Committee 

 
School management is that art, under which the human and physical elements related to the school are organized to achieve various objectives of education. 

Often people use the words management or administration and administration in the same sense, but it is not so. 

There are many views regarding the meaning of management. Generally, the meaning of management is to get the work done by other people and employees. 

The broad meaning of management is to contribute to the achievement of objectives of a business, industry or organization in an efficient manner through art and science. 
 
Management is generally understood to mean that it is concerned with planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and controlling the individual and collective efforts of workers in an organization to achieve common goals.


To make the meaning of management more clear, some scholars have given different definitions, the details of which are as follows-

According to Dr. Spriggal- “Administration is a determinative function. On the contrary, management is a work execution function, whose main task is to implement the policies set by the administration.

According to Bech - "Management is a social process, under which the responsibility of effective planning and regulation of the activities of an establishment is embedded."
 

Features of School Management | Characteristics of School Management Committee 

 
The following are the characteristics of school management:

1. Planned Management - School management or educational management is a planned management system. In this, all the work is done in a definite way, that is, all the work is done in a planned or planned manner.

2. Scientific outlook- Today's era is scientific. That's why it is necessary to adopt scientific approach in all study system and management. Scientific approach means that the management is analyzed in a scientific way by being free from prejudices.
 
3. Human Approach- There is human approach in other management also, but it is very important to keep in mind the educational human approach, because it has to do everything. Management is related to human beings (students/students). In the absence of good human relations, progress of educational institutions and the world of education is not possible.

4. Increase in efficiency- It is very necessary to increase the efficiency of the employees associated with them in educational management. That's why it is also a specialty of good educational management that it should keep continuous efforts related to increase in efficiency.
 
5. Certainty of Objective- All management has its objective. Therefore, educational management should also have a definite objective and it is very important to make this objective clear to all. When the purpose is clear, good efforts can be made to achieve it.

6. Maximum use of available resources – The specialty of all management is to make maximum use of resources. Although there is a lot of lack of available resources related to education in our country, but good management is the one, which can make maximum use of the available resources.
 
7. Spirit of co- operation- It is also necessary for good management that there should be a spirit of co-operation among all the persons connected with the management. Due to this, everyone rises above personal interests and starts emphasizing on collective interests.

Objectives of School Management Committee 

 
Every organization has its own goals and ideals and proper management is required for their successful attainment. School is an important social institution. Therefore, it should have a well organized management system. Without any effective management, there is a possibility of disorder and confusion spreading in the school life. An effective management makes proper arrangements in the school. It puts the right people in the right place, at the right time, in the right way. 

Following are the main Objectives of School Management Committee:
 
1. Sincere fulfillment of goals made by educationists - In a democracy, education has to fulfill the conditions of democratic ideals. Educational management should be taken as social diplomacy. The action of educational management should not be taken in a methodical way.

2. To teach the art of living together - School life has to be organized in such a way that children can be ready to imbibe the art of living together. The school has its own community life, which can be used as a training ground for good citizenship.
 
3. Operation and coordination of school related activities and tasks - School life has to be organized in such a way that in order to mature the objectives and goals propounded by educationists, it is necessary that various plans and processes are conducted in such a way that proper The person can get a suitable and proper place so that the work can be done according to the time.

4. Bringing the spirit of cooperation in the school and the ease of complex tasks - The spirit of cooperation has its own place in school management. At the human level, education management is related to children, parents, teachers, employers and society. 

At the level of resources, it is related to the property and its use, as well as it is also related to principles, traditions, rules, laws, etc. 
 
Other types of school related problems have to be solved. By giving a special direction to the program in a positive way, the school management manifests grand results in front of the complex work by making it easy.

5. To make the school as a community center - Such programs should be organized in the school through which the students and parents feel that the school belongs to them. The school is the center of social service.
 
6. Changing Concept of School Management – ​​Change is essential. The working method and concept of the school should be based on the particular culture and tradition, neither the education system nor its management should be imported. To make them certified and effective, they should be indigenous. 

Revolutionary changes have taken place in our country in the last several years. Similarly, the working method and goals of our school management should also be according to the changed needs.

What is the work area of ​​school management?

 
The field of school management is very wide and all those educational projects come under its management which has to fulfill the needs of democracy. The current management is related to all the relations of the school system. 

For example , relation between principal and students, relation between student and teacher, relation between school and society, etc.


Luther Gulick presented the analysis of school management process in a broad sense by POSDCORB  formula. Its structure includes the following seven elements, which interpret its meaning in the form of these seven managerial functions. 
 
Luther Gulick has described the duties of a headmaster as a manager on the basis of these seven elements. Their details are as follows- 

(1) P-Planning
(2) O-organization
(3) S- Supervision
(4) D-Direction
(5) Co-Co-ordination
(6) R-Reporting Report
(7) B-Budgeting 


(1) Planning- The first element of school management is planning i.e. planning. Before the commencement of the session, he has to prepare the annual plan, monthly plan, daily plan etc. of the school, so that the regular work of the school can start from the first day of the session. Planning construction of school management or headmaster. It is the first link to success.
 
(2) Organization – The second element of school management is organization, which can be divided into three main parts-

From the point of view of human organization, appointments of teachers, office workers, class IV employees etc. should be made by higher officials, so that there is no disturbance in the education of schools.

Getting the budget of the school under the economic organization, making the school an ideal school by getting funds through the government and public relations for the construction of new rooms and decorations in the school building as per the requirement, maintenance of the school garden, if any, etc.
 
(3) Inspection (supervision)- The third element of school management is- inspection. The headmaster oversees the management of the academic, co-scholastic and other activities of the entire school. In other words, he himself is the inspector of the school and evaluates its success and failure by inspecting the plan made by himself and makes changes accordingly.

(4) Direction - The fourth element of school management is - Direction. Under the direction, the headmaster also gives necessary instructions from time to time to his associate teachers, students, other working staff and parents. Guidance work is done in both oral and written form. Sometimes he instructs all at once.
 
(5) Coordination- The fifth element of school management is coordination, under which the principal has to do the work of maximum utilization and coordination of economic, physical and human resources. He invites dignitaries to Mar and Po. He receives financial assistance for the extensive progress of the school.

(6) Report- Sixth element of school management is report. Under this, reports of school-related cases have to be prepared by the manager-principal and presented to higher officials.
 
(7) Budget making- The seventh element of school management is budget making. Under this, a budget has to be made for financial and economic resources and their use. Making and receiving a budget is an essential requirement of the school.

Need of School Management Committee 

 
The need for school management can be clarified on the basis of the following points-

1. Preparation of role for improvement in teaching process- An important role is prepared by school management by establishing coordination in various activities, means, elements, material etc. of teaching process.

2. For educational development- Through this the works of educational institutions are developed and they are given a useful form.
 
3. Incorporation of new ideas in education- In the modern era, school management is very necessary for the use of latest ideas in the field of education. It is only through this that new concepts, principles etc. are made aware.

4. In educational policy- making, proper determination of education-related policies is done through school management and a framework is prepared for their implementation.
 
5. In giving democratic form to education- The utility and utility of education in a democracy is determined by the school management only. The rules of democracy are implemented in the field of education only on the basis of the level of educational administration.

Current problems of school management 

 
In the field of education, rendering of many principles on child's development, teaching method, curriculum making etc. has brought new educational awakening. The following facts affect the school management problems:

(i) People have become more aware towards education. Today we see more number of students going to school. They differ from each other in interest, need, respect and many other things.

(ii) The task of today's school is not only to develop the mind of the student, but also to make him master the 'art of living together', which is a subject in itself.
 
(iii) The recognition of increasing new demands on the management brings changes in the work of the principal.

(iv) Schools are expected to be helpful in achieving national integration. Therefore, it has a special impact on educational management.

(v) The school is engaged in the service of elementary democratic principles. Along with this, its service should be considered for the betterment of the individual and the progressing society.
