Education During Childhood Stage 

 

Early childhood is accepted as the bedrock of all human life. The basic attitudes, values and ideals of an individual are well settled during childhood.

It is, therefore, necessary to make education in relation to the developmental characteristics of the child when he is a child.


While providing education for boy and girl child in childhood, it is important to take note of the following points :-


1)  Attention on Physical Development 

 

A healthy mind develops in a healthy body, so mental development requires proper attention to the physical development of the child. For the proper development of children, arrangements should be made for participation in school sports, exercise, etc.


2. Education based on Child Psychology


Boys and girls do not like hard discipline. They hate the physical punishment, the use of force, the rash and so on. Therefore, Love and compassion - based education should be provided for the children.


3. Education through Sports and Activity 

 

Sports and activity are natural and spontaneous activities of children. Modern education provides an important place to sports and activities in the education of young boys. Through Sports and activity, children learn new things with ease, excitement and joy. Therefore, the teaching of children should be such that the child is able to acquire new knowledge through natural activity and Sports.


4. Emphasis on Language Development 

 

Attention should be given to language development during childhood. In order to enhance their knowledge of language, they should be encouraged to talk and participate in such activities as talking, telling stories, reading newspapers, participating in debate competitions, delivering lectures and reciting poems.


5. Interesting Content 


Children curriculum should be interesting and consistent with their requirements. In childhood, the interest of a child shows variability and changeability. Therefore, the education curriculum must be filled with interesting and variability.


6. Satisfaction of Curiosity

 

Through education, efforts should be made to satisfy and encourage the strong inquisitiveness ( Curious Nature ) of children. Parents and teachers should give the proper answer to the questions of the boys and teach them new advantages.


7. Satisfaction of Collectivism


To satisfy the collective attitude of children, collective work should be done in schools. The social attitude of children can be satisfied through the children 's assembly, a scottie guide, a tour, a cultural programme, etc.


8. Arrangement of Constructive Work

 

A variety of creative work is being provided for children at home and at school. The creative activity of the children can be developed by the use of clay, wood, paper, board, etc.


9. Promotion of accumulation tendency


The accumulation tendency of the child can be made academic orientation. Parents and teachers can encourage to gather educational objects. They can be organised in a meaningful manner from the educational point of view by collecting postage, match boxes , coins, drawings, natural objects, etc.

 

10. Development of Social Qualities


Socialization of a child is done during his childhood. The child leaves home and goes to school where he has a social interaction with other students and teachers.

Therefore, Activities should be organised in the school to accelerate the pace of the child 's social development.

The environment in class, school and the playground must be such that the students develop maximum social qualities such as discipline, self - restraint, responsibility, obedience, cooperation, sympathy, etc.


11. Moral Education

 

Moral values develop in children during childhood. He begins to believe in the ethical beliefs and rules of the society.

Thus, there should be imparted moral education in the school for proper formulation of moral conventions in children and for increasing their confidence in social beliefs and regulations.

There can be imparted moral education through simple, religious and moral stories that bring joy to children.


12. Emphasis on Mental Development


Proper environment is necessary for mental development. In childhood, therefore, the child should be provided with the right environment as far as possible for mental development.

At home and in school they must acquire an intellectual atmosphere to maximize their various mental faculties like materialization, memory, imagination, thought and reason.

 

The child 's education is entrusted with the responsibility of parents, teachers and society. In childhood, if education is imparted in accordance with the above points, then all - round development of children will be achieved.
